Africa’s $180 Billion Digital Trade Revolution Gains Momentum Ahead of Landmark Lagos Summit

Lagos, Nigeria – May 19, 2025 — A digital transformation is reshaping the future of trade across Africa, promising to unlock a $180 billion digital economy and accelerate the continent’s industrial revolution. As the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) connects 55 nations, 1.3 billion people, and a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion, platforms like Matta are emerging to streamline procurement, logistics, and payments across borders.

According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), global trade reached a record $33 trillion in 2024, with developing economies, including Africa, contributing significantly to the growth. Against this backdrop, Africa’s digital economy is projected to grow from $115 billion in 2020 to $180 billion by 2025, enhancing GDP, job creation, and regional trade.

Speaking on this transformation, H.E. Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade & Investment, emphasized:

“Digital trade is transforming the continent’s economic landscape, creating new opportunities for real economic growth, productive job creation, and poverty reduction.”

At the heart of this shift is Matta, an integrated digital ecosystem tailored for Africa’s industrial supply chain. Matta’s platform consolidates sourcing, logistics (through its Flux logistics tool), and soon-to-launch Oxide Finance — a trade-financing and cross-border payments solution. The goal: real-time visibility, traceability, and seamless trade transactions across sectors including food & beverage, agro-processing, automotive assembly, construction, and textiles.

“We must move from fragmented digital efforts to a unified ecosystem that enables manufacturers and suppliers to manage sourcing and cross-border logistics with ease,” said Mudiaga Mowoe, Founder and CEO of Matta.

This transformation will take center stage at the West Africa Industrialisation, Manufacturing & Trade (West Africa IMT) Summit and Exhibition, scheduled for October 21–23, 2025, at the Landmark Centre in Lagos. The event is poised to bring together 15+ African ministers, 70+ expert speakers, 250+ exhibiting companies, and over 2,500 attendees from across 25+ countries.

Organised by dmg Nigeria events, the summit will unite stakeholders across energy, finance, infrastructure, logistics, and technology to craft practical, public-private solutions for advancing West Africa’s industrial agenda.

Matta and other leading innovators will discuss how digital platforms are bridging critical gaps in procurement, logistics coordination, payment processing, and data-driven supply chain planning — vital components in Africa’s path toward becoming a globally competitive industrial hub.

As Africa moves to chart its economic destiny, initiatives like Matta are not just disrupting old models — they are building the digital highways for the continent’s next industrial leap.
